As today is Craig's 33rd birthday I thought it would be nice to spend it doing activities he loves - boating, snorkelling, swimming and, yes, eating. The obvious choice from Hoi An for these types of activities is the Cham Island, right off the coast, so a tour was booked and we were off.
As you can see, Craig is thrilled with my brilliant plan. ;)
Unfortunately, as often happens, things didn't go quite to plan when we found out, upon the boat moaring at our snorkelling spot, that half of the people on board couldn't swim. What?!
After a few minutes of listening to them freak out, Craig and I just jumped in and left them to it.
As, it seems, not being able to swim puts a major dampener on the whole snorkelling experience, everyone else was back in the boat after just a few minutes of flailing around with their lifejackets on. Sooo... long story short we đidn't get much time to actual snorkel on the snorkelling tour and were instead, dumped on a beach for a few hours until lunch. Not that that was too much of a hardship...
After all that work we needed a big lunch to help sustain us and they didn't disappoint.
Yes, even snails. Actually quite tasty, believe it or not.
Once our bellies were full we had another hour or so of relaxation on the beach (ok, I slept and Craig explored) and then we were off back to the mainland. What a day!
Tonight we plan to walk around the beautiful city of Hoi An and celebrate Craig's birthday even further. The city is spectacular at night with lanterns glowing everywhere. Truly gorgeous. I am looking forward to it.
Before I go, though, I should point out that we have finally put our pics into a picassa album for you to check out. Click on the "Photos" tab at the top of the blog to find them.
Now go and have a drink to help Craig celebrate. Bottoms up!
