Hoi An - A Quick Look Back

Craig and I have just arrived in Hue, after a gorgeous 3.5 hour car trip over the Hai Van Pass.  The scenery was truly spectucalur, with mountains on one side and the coast on the other.

Breathtaking indeed.  The scenery - not us.  ;)

Before we start exploring Hue, the old Imperial capital, I thought I'd take a quick lookback at our time in Hoi An - one of my favourite spots so far.

We started with a sample of local delicacies (of course)...

Cao Lau - Pork and Noodles in broth, with croutons.

White Rose - Shrimp dumplings

Both were delicious - especially the noodles which we managed to have once or twice more. ;)

We then checked out some markets...

Before heading back to check-in to our room at the brand-spanking new Vaia Boutique Hotel.

Thanks to Craig dropping the "H" word we were greeted with a little surprise...

As well as...

Which we started scoffing before remembering to take a pic. Sorry! It was very tasty though. :)

As Hoi An is the place of the million and one tailors, Craig took the opportunity to have a suit custom-made.

After a few fittings he was able to walk away with a jacket, two pairs of pants, three shirts and three ties for under $300. Bargain!

By far my favourite time was at night when the city really came alive with a fantastic buzz, and hundreds of lanterns lined the cobbled streets. It was amazing and made me "ohh" and "ahh" at every corner.

Night time also means dinner so we went up-scale in honour of Craig's birthday and enjoyed a FEAST overlooking the river.

Happy husband, happy life?!

For our last morning (without any sore heads, thanks Karen!) in this beautiful city we decided to check out some historical sites, including a few temples and the Japanese Covered Bridge.

With all those sites being all over the city we had to get around somehow and, well, after the Bali incident of 2012, I sort of maybe promised my mum that I wouldn't get on a scooter so...

Too much fun! Ba ha ha ha ha. ;)

Bye Hoi An.  We'll be back!

E.

PS - Sorry Mum. x

P.S - Looking sharp in the suit Craig!

P.P.S - I'm sure by the time you finish up at Hanoi, you would have perfected the art of crossing the road. I learned the hard way - just go, don't stop and certainly don't look back!
